1CancerPatient - An Interview with Traci Asher

Traci Asher was first diagnosed with stage III breast cancer on July 31, 2014, at the age of 39. Three years after that, She was diagnosed with stage IV metastatic breast cancer, which appeared in the vertebrae of my neck. Two years later, after complaining of headaches and dizziness, she went to the ER and was diagnosed with my third tumor. This book is about her journey.

This book 1CancerPatient is a resource for cancer thrivers and their caregivers. In this interview, Traci talks about her experience with her three diagnoses, and how she and those around her use photography to document her journey and as catharsis — the visual exploration as a means of understanding and healing. The book’s full title is 1CancerPatient: A unique photo journal to guide difficult cancer conversations and includes a timeline of her personal journey, a recording of her treatments, social interactions, relationships, and emotions. The photographs are Georgina Cates, Stacy Cain, and Asher’s father Warren Perlstein.

This book is truly a valuable resource that describes Asher’s personal experiences with cancer while providing a visual recording of those experiences that can resonate and provide an empathetic resource for those on a similar journey.
