Interview with Tony Chirinos on his new book The Precipice
For the last two years, Tony Chirinos and I have consulted to produce a book for a project, The Precipice, has now been released with the award-winning, art book publisher Gnomic Book.
This book includes three projects that collectively define Chirinos’ artwork produced in his 15-year career as a medical photographer. The first series in the surgical theater, followed by a typological and vibrantly colored image of the oft-anthropomorphic tools, and finishing with his images in the morgue. The photographic series are accompanied by two extraordinary pieces of prose by Albuquerque New Mexico’s Poet Lauraete Michelle Otero and essayist Eugenie Shinkle, and a poem by Claudia Isidron.
This book is now available for order from Gnomic Book along with the limited edition of only 20 copies, for order on Tony Chirinos’ website. The limited edition comes in an aluminum box, with a signed copy of the book, two 8x10” prints (archival digital print of a tool and a silver-gelatin of the surgical theater image), a set of surgical gloves. The box is wrapped in surgical cloth and tape as a sterilized set of tools may be presented in the theater. This is such a treasure for any book collection at an incredible price.
Finally, Tony and I collaborated to produce a limited portfolio of only two plus one artist proof. The super-deluxe edition comes with 20 prints, each 16x20” (12X15” image size) in a custom clamshell box including pieces from all three projects from The Precipice – all signed and numbered.
