This online seminar-style workshop is for creators who are looking to jumpstart their creative project and are wondering how emerging generative AI technology can help them.

In this series, Bruce McConnel and Melanie McWhorter will help creators better understand how to use generative AI tools as a catalyst to help refine their artistic ambitions, structure and elevate their projects, and develop powerful marketing strategies to build awareness and momentum. Workshop participants will acquire a foundational understanding of generative AI and learn about some of the practical ways it can help elevate their creative work.

Bruce brings workshop participants over two decades of high-technology marketing communications experience, sharing his understanding of the generative AI landscape and a set of easy-to-employ practices that can help creators unlock the potential of AI chatbot technology. Melanie brings over 20 years of work in professional photobook production, sales, and personal portfolio consulting fields to workshop participants to assist in achieving more clarity and focus with their project objective. Together they equip workshop attendees with examples of real-world applications and hands-on examples of how generative AI intersects with the creative world.

Bruce will spotlight the pivotal role of tools like GPT-3 for creating innovative and efficient strategies in various facets of their creative projects. Melanie and Bruce will demonstrate how to leverage hands-on exercises such as the crafting and refining of artist or project statements, alongside an in-depth exploration of AI-enhanced social media marketing strategies. This workshop unveils the myriad of real-world applications and opportunities AI opens up for creatives.

This presentation-style workshop includes one session of break-out rooms where students can discuss developments in their own use of AI.

Bruce McConnel
Drawing from his extensive digital marketing experience, Bruce McConnel helps companies and creators navigate the evolving media landscape and elevate the power and impact of their storytelling. With leadership roles at top-tier marketing firms including Ogilvy & Mather, high-tech cybersecurity startups, and F100 corporate giants like IBM, Bruce has over two decades of marketing communications expertise.

As Head of Global Social for Mandiant, Bruce built a fledgling content and social media initiative into a global force, bolstering awareness in pivotal markets, launching an industry-leading podcast and leading a team of creative content experts to develop breakthrough social media content. His collaborative leadership focuses on connecting standout creative work with tangible business and brand outcomes.

Beyond the corporate world, Bruce's lens captures the serene beauty of the natural world. His current book project, "Nature’s Keepers: Building Coastal Community Resilience" reflects his commitment to pairing compelling visual narratives with urgent environmental issues. Central to Bruce's photographic work is a singular goal: to prompt his audience to not just observe, but to engage, advocate, and take action to preserve our environment.

Melanie McWhorter (melaniemcwhorter.com) has gained a reputation as a knowledgeable photography professional; has been interviewed about photography in numerous print and online publications including Lenscratch and NPR; curated exhibitions including Trust the Story at Baldwin Photographic Gallery; has reviewed portfolios at New England Portfolio Reviews, Photolucida, Review Santa Fe and PhotoNOLA; and taught and lectured at numerous venues including Santa Fe Workshops, PhotoNOLA, Maine Media, and University of North Texas.
